Carl Sagan,
the late visionary scientist, author, and educator.
Sagan co-founded The Planetary Society in 1980 and was its first President.
Sagan's work in planetary research and exobiology helped
shape the evolving scientific field of SETI.
Sagan is the author of many books, including the best-seller Cosmos, whose accompanying television series won Emmy and Peabody awards. Cosmos Studios, under the leadership of Sagan's long-time wife and collaborator Ann Druyan, continues to pursue Sagan's vision by sponsoring, documenting, and popularizing science.
Druyan also heads The Carl Sagan Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to Sagan's ideals and principles. The Foundation's inaugural project is The Carl Sagan Discovery Center at the Children's Hospital at Montefiore in New York City.
